Conversation Class - Find someone who (Simple Present)
Find someone who activities are a really great way to get students up on their feet and talking to each other. If possible I do one of these in in the first session with a new class because it’s a great ice breaking exercise.
Give each student a copy of the question sheet. Go through each row and as a class have students construct the questions they will need in order to find a person whose name they can write in the name column.
Brainstorm some examples of more open questions they can ask to find out additional details for the extra information column.
I usually leave a couple of blank rows at the bottom of the question sheet and ask the students to come up with a couple of extra ideas to fill these spaces.
It’s worth stressing that students need to find only one name for each of the rows on the sheet. Be sure to model the activity because there’s plenty of room for students to misinterpret the instructions.
I usually join in with this exercise, it seems to help with group bonding.
When everybody has finished, usually after 15 – 20 minutes. Go through each of the questions and ask students who they found and any extra information they discovered too.
