Uso do "Can"

 

Can é uma palavra muito versátil que apresenta vários usos em inglês.

Usamos para expressar habilidade: Can you cook? (Você consegue cozinhar?)
Mais exemplos:
  • How many slices of pizza can you eat?
  • Do you know if Jenny can sing?
Usamos para expressar conhecimento: Can you speak Japanese? (Você é capaz de falar Japonês?)
Mais exemplos:
  • I think Chris can answer any type of grammar question.
  • Do you know if Jenny can understand this math problem?
Nós também usamos para expressar a oportunidade, a chance de fazer algo: Tourists in NYC can experience so many things. (Turistas na cidade de Nova Yorque pode vivenciar muitas coisas).
  • In a university, you can meet many students from various countries.
  • You can find all kinds of books in that shop.


Nós usamos can topara expressar dúvida ou surpresa em uma situação:
  • The teacher spoke so fast. You can’t have understood him.
  • Jane is three hours late. Where can she be?
  • It can’t rain tomorrow! We are supposed to have a beach party.
Nós usamos can a expressar permissão:
  • You can watch TV after you finish your homework.
  • In some states, you can drive 65mph on the highway.
  • Mom said I can have a second piece of chocolate cake.
Nós usamos can para fazer solicitações:
  • Can you help me with my homework?
  • I’m thirsty. Can I have a cool drink?
  • Can we take a break from studying now? I’m tired.
Nós usamos can para dar sugestões ou oferecer algo:
  • We can take a break now if you’d like.
  • Joe: What do you want to eat for dinner?
  • Bob: We can order pizza!
  • Joe: Or, we can go out and have a burger.

Nós também usamos can para falar sobre situações comuns ou típicas:
  • Working long hours can be dangerous for your health.
  • Be careful of that dog. He can be quite aggressive.
  • Bosses and teachers can be quite demanding.

Conforme me comprometi, cá estão alguns exercicios com o verbo to be no present. São vários. Tem alguns bem simples, outros mais complicados, vale a pena você se arriscar. Qualquer dúvida, pergunte em sala de aula ou aqui. Puxa, acho que já é o suficiente por hoje. Verbos Irregulares em Inglês

Embora os verbos irregulares se constituam numa pequena minoria em relação a todos os verbos existentes na língua, a frequência com que ocorrem é muito alta, o que lhes dá uma importância significativa. São todos de origem anglo-saxônica e se referem predominantemente a ações comuns. Os verbos irregulares do inglês são aqueles verbos que não seguem a regra geral de formação do Passado e do Particípio Passado. A formação do  Past  e do  Past Participle,  de acordo com a regra geral, que se aplica a todos os demais verbos, se dá através do sufixo  - ed . Portanto, todo verbo que não seguir este padrão, será classificado de irregular. All the auxiliary verbs except be, do and have are called modals. Unlike other auxiliary verbs modals only exist in their helping form; they cannot act alone as the main verb in a sentence.
