Present Continous ou Present Simple?

What do you usually do on Tuesdays? (O que você costuma fazer às terças-feiras?)
What are you doing today? (O que você está fazendo hoje?)

I always work on Tuesdays, and in fact, I am working right now.( Eu sempre trabalho às terças-feiras, e na verdade, eu estou trabalhando no momento. )
I’ve just given you two examples of sentences in English that use the simple present and present continuous grammar. For today’s English lesson, let’s have a look at the difference between both of these grammar patterns. (Eu apenas dei-lhe dois exemplos de frases em Inglês que usam a gramática presente contínuo e presente simples. Para lição de Inglês de hoje, vamos dar uma olhada na diferença entre esses dois padrões gramaticais.)
We use the simple present to talk about situations that happen regularly and generally true facts or situation: (Nós usamos o simples presente para falar sobre situações que acontecem regularmente e fatos geralmente verdadeiros ou situação:)
  • When it snows, driving is dangerous. This is a generally true fact. (Quando neva, dirigir é perigoso. Este é um facto geralmente verdadeiro.)

  • Bob lives in St Louis, but his parents live in Miami. Where Bob and his parents live is a generally true situation (Bob vive em St Louis, mas seus pais moram em Miami. Onde Bob e seus pais vivem é uma situação verdadeira)

  • go to work by train. Going to work by train happens regularly. (Eu vou trabalhar de trem. Ir para o trabalho de trem acontece rotineiramente.)
We use the present continuous to talk about situations that are happening now, or around now. This “around now” has the meaning of “these days.” (Usamos o presente contínuo para falar sobre situações que estão acontecendo agora, ou em torno de agora. Este "em torno de agora" tem o significado de "nos dias de hoje.")
  • Jack is working hard on his project now. I hope he can finish it soon. Jack’s situation is happening right now.
  • I’m having lunch now, I can’t help you. Having lunch is happening now.
  • Megumi’s baby is learning how to walk. These days, her baby is learning how to walk.
Note that verbs which describe states (like have, want, know, etc.) and verbs that describe emotions (like, love & hate) are not used in the present continuous form:
(Note-se que os verbos que descrevem estados (como  ter, querer, saber, etc.) e verbos que descrevem emoções (gostar, amar & ódiar) não são usados no presente formulário contínuo:
  • have a new computer. (Eu tenho um computador novo) Not, I am having a new computer.
  • hate working overtime! (Eu odeio hora extra!) Not, I am hating working overtime.
