Adjetivos Superlativos - Adjectives Superlatives

 

O que é um "Superlative Adjective"? Veja no português exemplos:
Ex: Minha casa é grande.
O "grande" neste caso é um adjetivo.
Ex: Minha casa é a maior da tua.
"A maior" é o superlativo do adjetivo.
Nós usamos o Superlativo quando estamos falando de três coisas ou mais.

 

 

Formação do "Superlative Adjectives"

Temos duas maneiras para forma-los: usando

• adjetivos pequenos: acrescenta "-est"
• adjectivos longos: use "most"

Sempre se usa o artigo definito "the" antes do superlativo:

Short adjectives
1-adjectivos de uma sílaba	old, fast
2-adjetivos de uma silaba terminados por  -y	happy, easy
Normal rule: adicione "-est"	old → the oldest
Se o adjectivo terminar em  -e, adicione apenas -st	late → the latest
Variation: se o adjectivo terminar por consoante, vogal, consoante, dobre a última consoante	big → the biggest
Variation: se o adjetivo terminar por consoante + y, tire o y, e acrescente -iest.	angry → angriest
Long adjectives
2-se não terminarem por -y	modern, pleasant
Todos os adjectivos três silabas ou mais	expensive, intellectual
Normal rule: use "most"	modern → the most modern expensive → the most expensive

Com os de duas sílabas, use '-est' ou 'most':

• quiet → the quietest/most quiet
• clever → the cleverest/most clever
• narrow → the narrowest/most narrow
• simple → the simplest/most simple

Exception
Irregulares:

• good → the best
• bad → the worst
• far → the furthest

Uso do Superlative Adjectives

Você usa para comparar de três coiusas ou mais. Se for apenas duas coisas, você usa o Comparative Adjective. Se tiver dúvida, procure no outro post sobre o assunto.
Exemplos:

• John is 1m75. David is 1m80. Chris is 1m85. Chris is the tallest.
• Canada, China and Russia are big countries. But Russia is the biggest.
• Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world.

If we talk about the three planets Earth, Mars and Jupiter, we can use superlative adjectives as shown in the table below:

Veja exemplos de quanto a gente não usa o "The"

• England is coldest in winter. (not the coldest) - Inglaterra é mais fria no inverno.
• My boss is most generous when we are on time. (not the most generous) Meu chefe é mais generoso quando nós estamos no prazo.
